Humane Education

Our Humane Education program encourages young people to share their natural affinity for animals. Research has shown that children who are taught kindness towards animals tend to mature into caring, responsible adults.

Our programs nurture the human/animal bond and instill compassion in children of a variety of ages.

Group Programs

  • Party Animal Birthday Parties: Your child can celebrate a birthday at the Humane Society of Huron Valley in our large education room which includes many wonderful amenities.
  • Shelter Tours: Does your school or organization want a tour of the Humane Society of Huron Valley? We offer educational tours and presentations to area youth and adults that have a natural connection with animals and would like to promote animal compassion and kindness.
  • Scout Programs: Bring your scout group to HSHV to complete an animal badge!
  • Youth Group Day of Service: Spend the morning volunteering with HSHV as a group. Once a month, HSHV holds a Day of Service for adult and youth groups in our community.
  • Animal Care Education Presentations: Invite our Humane Educator to visit your classroom, organization, or program and pick from a variety of topics that will include demonstrations and and educational information.
  • Field Trips: Do your students want to enrich their learning by visiting HSHV? We offer two hour long classroom field trips for grades K-8.

Youth Programs 

  • Camp PAWS: Winter Camp Registration is Now Open! Offered in both summer and winter, this day camp program educates youth ages 7-11 to help them become responsible, compassionate pet caregivers.
  • Junior Volunteers Program: Youth ages 12-17 will engage in a 6 week training program on their way to becoming an HSHV Junior Volunteer. You will work alongside our humane education team and have many hands-on experiences. 
  • Pets and Pajamas Movie Night: Once a month, youth ages 5 to 11 are invited to spend a Friday evening with HSHV to play games, enjoy a vegetarian dinner, spend time with HSHV animals and watch a movie complete with popcorn.  
  • Little Paws Storytime: Do you have a young child who loves animals? Then, bring your little ones to HSHV’s Little Paws program to have a paws-itively fun time! Designed for ages 2-4, this program will keep your tot engaged through stories, activities, crafts, and animal interactions!

Celebrating Humane Youth

  • The Kind Kid's Corner: View photos and stories of young people making a difference in their community by helping the homeless animals at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. These stories are inspirational! 
  • The Youth Events Calendar:  Visit our calendar often and see what events have been added so you can get involved with your friends at HSHV.
  • Ways to Help Animals Are you looking for some fun ideas that you can do to help the homeless animals at HSHV? Take a look at these ideas and projects and maybe one of these will spark your interest.
