I spent an entire August afternoon at HSHV, getting to know all of the felines in residence. I'd seen a little video clip of Bonham on the website, so she was at the top of my list, but I'd decided that I was ready to have TWO kitties this time around, and I wanted to make sure we were all the right fit for each other. Betty won my heart when I sat down in her communal cat room and she climbed right up in my lap so she could head-butt my chin, and started purring. She & Bonham were in the same room and seemed to at least tolerate each other, so I figured it was worth a chance.
I wasn't crazy about "Bonham"--it just didn't seem to suit the dainty ball of energy I had brought home. So, after much deliberation, I settled on Deutzia (Doots for short). Deutzia is the name of a bush with delicate white blossoms which burst forth in early summer, and that epitomized the delicate appearing kitty subject to wild bursts of energy that has made my apartment her playground.
The past 4+ months have been quite an adventure for all of us. The girls love playing with each other, racing about the apartment, switching up who's chasing whom from one moment to the next. One of their favorite toys is the tunnel I bought, in which one can lie in wait for the other, or survey the bird feeder out on the balcony without being seen. They both love to cuddle with me, and they both LOVE play time, especially with Da Bird.
This is my second great adoption experience with HSHV - just lost my love of 13 years, Mittens, in July. So thankful to all of the people at HSHV for the loving care they give all who come through their doors.
