At Long Last  At Long Last A family's search for a second dog ends with a dog's search for his fourth family. For the past few years, we had been casually looked for a second dog. Our black lab's coat, now "salt and pepper," reminded me that we needed to find another farm dog that she could teach. Yes, she would train her replacement. Her important job of protecting our horse farm could not be vacated. One evening I had a strong urge to read the local paper. An article on the HSHV's adopt-a-thon encouraged me to check online at their available dogs. There he was, a nine-month-old "collie/lab" mix. Perfect! By no fault of his own, Toby had been adopted and returned twice, after being brought up from Tennessee as a pup in a rescue wagon. We met Toby, took him for a walk and then returned him to his crate. He quietly went inside, stopped, turned back around and licked my hand to say goodbye before walking back inside. My heart melted. That night we brought him home! Indi is teaching him with a mother's patience, and he is helping her to play and adding years to her life. THANK YOU HSHV for all your hard work and allowing us to adopt Toby and provide him with the forever home that had alluded him until now. We love him! |
