Link and Zelda  Link and Zelda Zelda is perfect for our family and makes a great companion for Link! Sometime around May of 2011, we adopted Link, a black pit-sharpei mix, from HSHV (formerly Blarney/Nate). Link spent about 3 months at the shelter/in a foster home, and became a staff favorite because he'd play with any dog. It became clear after adopting him that Link really likes company. This fall, we decided to adopt a second dog so that he didn't need to be alone. However, we had to be pretty picky—we needed a dog that could coexist with two cats and be a companion for Link. We were wandering by the kennels after a failed cat test when a white 1-year old pit mix named Diamond came up, whole butt wiggling, to say "Hi." She was a little unsure and didn't know how to play with toys, but she was pretty happy to see people. My husband liked her. She wasn't aggressive toward cats, and Link seemed to get along with her so we brought her home and renamed her Zelda. For a 1-year old dog, she is remarkably well-behaved. She's eager to please, and seems to be enjoying her new home. She immediately latched on to Link, and he didn't seem to mind. He helped us teach her how to play, and she taught him how to chew on leashes (oh well). Zelda and the cats are working on coexisting peacefully. So far, it's taking a lot less time for the cats to get used to Zelda compared to when we brought Link home. (And for those who know the reference, our male cat was certainly channeling Ganon for a couple weeks). Thanks for the help, patience, and cat tests HSHV staff! Zelda is perfect for our family. |
