Matching Challenge Update

Many of our friends have been following the news surrounding horse neglect and cruelty cases in our community. A few weeks ago we started a Farm Animal Aid Fund to help care for and house horses and other farm animals suffering from neglect, and to help community members that may find themselves in need of supplemental hay and horse feed.

HSHV Board Member Susan Kornfield kicked off the campaign with a $5,000 matching challenge gift that ended on October 15th. We’re happy to report that during the challenge we raised close to $32,000! We thank everyone that has joined us to provide food and care to these noble animals. This will help defray our costs of caring for neglected horses and other farm animals as we head into winter. We anticipate that the Farm Animal Aid Fund will continue to be an important part of HSHV’s mission in preventing cruelty to animals. If you are able to provide food, HSHV has a wish list which includes information on the kind of feed that can be donated.

While several neglected horses remain in our care (and sadly, a few more were added just this past weekend) we are delighted to report that two of the rescued horses have been adopted!

To find out more about the HSHV horses available for adoption please email adoptions@hshv.org or call (734) 661-3511.

Watch for more updates about the cases of horse abandonment and cruelty that our investigators are still pursuing.
