HSHV Fall Adopt-a-thon Update! Record breaking adoption day An incredible 67 homeless animals found their new caring homes on Saturday, September 29th at the Humane Society of Huron Valley’s fall adopt-a-thon! The totals were:

Each year HSHV sees an increase in the number of homeless animals in the fall. Many of those are kittens that come to the shelter too small to be adopted and needing the summer months to grow. 25 kittens under the ages of 4 months old were adopted at the adopt-a-thon. “Amazingly enough,” said Ann Edwards, HSHV Foster Coordinator. “There are still close 100 kittens in foster homes that will be ready over the next month to be adopted. So while it was great for some many to find homes last weekend, we still need people to remember that our shelter will be full again within a week.” HSHV lists all of the current adoptable animals at www.hshv.org and about 25% of the animals are pure-bred. With 8 to 10 million animals going into shelters across the United States this year, it’s important that families remember to make adoption their first option when they are ready to add a new family member to their home. All of the pets adopted from HSHV are fixed, have updated vaccinations, a medical and behavior evaluation, and have a microchip I.D., which is all included in the very affordable adoption fee. |

“We’re delighted that so many community members came to HSHV with the goal of adopting a new family member,” said Renee Benell, HSHV Adoptions and Customer Service Manager. “There was a steady stream of visitors throughout the day who were excited to adopt a pet. Since we had over 140 animals available for adoption, we had plenty of deserving pets to choose from. Everyone had a great time (see photos) and thanks to our volunteers and staff, the Saturday was the most successful adoptions day in our history.”
