Lilly (formerly Winifred) is adapting to her new home

Lilly is beginning to settle in.

Winifred has been skittish since her rescue by the Humane Society. I hope to give her an environment that she could feel secure in. While Lilly is still skittish, she insisted on going beyond the borders of her "safe room". She has come to like my closet as her home now. She doesn't seem to be afraid of my other cat (who is definitely wary of her).

While I wish Lilly would be unafraid to wander between rooms in my house, at least she is curious about her environment. She is definitely happy when she is in my lap!

I want to thank the HSHV Volunteer who told me her story, and who gave me her little rubber brush which she seems to like so much. I adopted her only 3 days ago and I think her progress is going extremely well. This is my first adoption where I needed to expose my 6 year old cat to an older cat. I'm confident all will work out well and I am happy to have adopted a cat in need. My only regret is that I couldn't adopt every cat residing in the Humane Society.

As the volunteer told me, I need her as much as she needs me—and it's true. My only wish is that people can understand the value of a pet and that every pet had a home so that we can render humane societies unnecessary (no offense to the employees and volunteers!)

I will update this with a picture as soon as Lilly decides to come out of her hiding places and take advantage of the whole house instead of each hiding place she can find. Best of luck to the Humane Society—in my mind you have one of the most noble jobs on earth.
