Baby (formerly Callie)
We adopted Baby in January 2001 and continue to love having her as a member of our family.
My family adopted Baby (formerly known as Callie) back in 2001 when I was just a kid. She was only the second cat we've ever owned (the first being a sweet orange tabby we adopted 6 years prior to Baby). We tried to hard to find a decent name for her - Callie was too commonplace, we thought. My mother suggested names like Tansy while my father jokingly insisted on Mushroom. We called her Baby while we were trying to decide and unfortunately it stuck. Even though we all agree that it doesn't do her justice she knows it and trills every time we call her.
When she was a kitten she was a scientist and especially loved to experiment with gravity. As soon as she entered our home nothing on a table was safe. Whenever we were far enough away to keep from stopping her she'd leap onto the table and casually bat glasses off it. She'd then sample the contents as we rushed to clean up the mess (while secretly enjoying her behavior).
Baby is also a tunneler. She loves to crawl up under blankets to share body heat and snuggle. Fuzzy blankets are her favorite. That may be why we've ended up with so many of them in the house!
When she was about a year and a half old or so she discovered the great outdoors. She slipped out one day and try as we might we haven't been able to keep her exclusively inside ever since. She's so happy out there and gets so frustrated when she's kept inside that we just can't bear to do that to her. Besides, she's a fantastic escape artist!
She's getting a little old now and is developing a little arthritis. We've been treating her for it though and it seems to be getting better.
We continue to love and enjoy having Baby as a member of our family. She sat on my lap for a while as I was writing this - but then got annoyed at me for typing and not petting her!
