Cruelty Case Update

Local woman faces consequences for animal cruelty, thanks to our local courts and the HSHV Animal Cruelty Investigation Department.

We wanted to share an update with you in our community's fight against animal cruelty. Last year, an Ypsilanti woman was found guilty of two separate counts of animal cruelty and sentenced to probation and restitution. Unfortunately, she was able to keep her remaining dog, provided HSHV was allowed to perform random home checks. She recently violated the terms of her probation, was ordered to surrender her remaining dog to HSHV, and spent 10 days in jail.

Animal cruelty is a very serious crime. Our Animal Cruelty Investigation Department investigates over 500 reports of animal cruelty a year. A person beating their dog... abandoning their cat in an apartment... chaining a dog outside without food and water... neighbors who suspect dog fighting on their street... are all examples of calls our Investigators receive daily. They work relentlessly to investigate these crimes and bring offenders to justice.

Thank you for helping us fight for and give new chances to animals that need our help.
