Ann Arbor, MI. The Humane Society of Huron Valley is proud to be a supporting partner of the "Pets for Patriots" national adoption program.

Pets for Patriots create unique opportunities for members of the military community to save a life by honorably adopting homeless adult dogs and cats. They support member Patriot adoptions of adult shelter pets, large dogs, and special needs animals—those most in need of a loving, forever home—from any of their member shelters. To ease the financial costs associated with pet ownership, they partner with veterinarians to deliver a minimum 10% discount for the life of the adopted pet’s care. Pets for Patriots provides access to additional cost reductions for pet basics, such as food, toys and essential supplies.

"As we all reflect on the sacrifices made by our military, we're honored to bring the healing power of companion pets to service members, veterans and their families through our partnership with the Humane Society of the Huron Valley," says Beth Zimmerman, founder and executive director of Pets for Patriots. "Between an adoption fee discount and ongoing, reduced cost care at their veterinary clinic, the Humane Society will help us keep patriots' new pet friends happy and healthy for years to come."

On Friday, May 25th, Peter Ayers, a United States Marine, and his family, adopted a 7-year-old dog named Magoo from HSHV. Magoo, a Newfoundland mix, had been waiting for a family to adopt him since October 2011. Besides the adoption discount provided by Pets for Patriots, the HSHV Veterinary Clinic will be giving Magoo a 10% discount on his medical needs for the rest of his life.

The Humane Society of Huron Valley, located in Ann Arbor, was recently awarded the "Best Animal Shelter in Michigan" by the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance for saving the most lives.
