Delilah (previously 'Lola')

Adopted in November 2011

My fiance and I had visited many, many shelters, trying to find a pet that would have the qualities we wanted and needed, when we came to Huron Valley Humane Society. We visited the various runs that held the dogs, when we found one, a larger, sweet, female, brown and white Pitbull mix, named Lola. She had bald spots from a severe flea allergy, but that didn't stop the love she radiated. My fiance was the first to bend down to pet her through the cage. Lola sat right down, and shouldered up against the bars, and just wagged her tail. She had the biggest brown eyes, and an expression that could just melt you. She didn't have to know you, she just loved, and she seemed to know that my fiance needed her as bad as she needed us. Earlier, we had lost our beloved Pitbull/Great Dane mix, named Lilly. This broke Krista (my fiance) and my heart. I wasn't sure Krista could ever love another animal again. Over 5 shelters we had been to, and Krista never found a dog she could feel a connection with. I didn't think Lola would be a very good match, because we weren't sure what to make of her skin conditions, but Krista had her own health issues, she knew Lola needed her and Krista is the perfect person to nurse her back to health! We went through the lengthy adoption process and took her home with us. Now, almost a month later, her fur is growing back beautiful and white, she's put on weight, and while I'm over the road, she is my fiance's best friend, she sleeps in the bed with her every night, they eat their meals together, they play and walk together, and even watch Animal Planet together! Two peas in a pod! Never, in a million years did I think there was a dog special enough to bring Krista out of her depression from losing Lilly, but Lilah (formerly Lola) was able to do that, and more. I will forever be grateful to Huron Valley Humane Society for allowing us to adopt her, and for giving my fiance back the joy that we had lost.
