Pippin (formerly Queen Sugar Pants)

Update on Pippin
Update on Pippin

Adopted in August 2010

Pippin (formerly known as "Queen Sugarpants") joined our family in August 2010. She was just under a year old, having given birth to a litter of kittens at about 9 or 10 months. She was brought into Humane Society of Huron Valley and placed in foster care. When we first met Pippin, she was small and very thin. She was also remarkably friendly, curious, and confident. When we brought her home, she established herself as the undisputed head of our household.

Mornings you may find Pippin busy herding her people and a (recently rescued) beagle hound to the kitchen for breakfast, then back upstairs to her preferred bathroom sink for her morning drink. At the end of the day, we have come to expect her cheerful chirp and a head-butt to greet us at the door.

She loves her Science Diet and her light-ball-in-a-track-game. She was also fond of chewing on my computer cord (to my horror) but we learned to distract her with a fiendish tail and other safe danglers. Pippin is not fond of the traditional toy mouse or scrunchy, she likes things that flutter and swoop. A natural athlete, Pippin enjoys diving (from across the room, especially) through her tunnel, and when the lining makes such crackly noises, it is sublime.

Since we got her a cat perch, she no longer tries to swing from the curtains but practices flying leaps to and from the top of the five foot tower. When Pippin feels ignored, she will attack my manuscripts, shredding sheets of paper very methodically with her teeth and paws. This behavior successfully earns her my attention, it hasn't failed yet. She is a smart and just plain cheerful cat, one of the best we've ever known.
