Cages are Full at the Humane Society of Huron Valley

Facility reaching a critical situation

(Ann Arbor) – The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is literally bursting at the seams with kittens, puppies, cats and dogs of all ages and sizes. Cage space at HSHV is nonexistent and we want people to remember to make adoption their first option if they are ready for a pet.

"A recent cat hoarding case which resulted in 24 adult cats needing shelter coupled with an already large amount of homeless animals at our facility has brought us to a critical situation," said Tanya Hilgendorf, HSHV Executive Director. "Unfortunately, our foster home volunteers are also near capacity. We are committed to saving the lives of every healthy and treatable animal that comes into our care, but we need the community to help us achieve this goal."

Kitten season which traditionally should be nearing its end at this time of year has not slowed down at all. In fact, HSHV has litters of kittens ready for adoption every single week with no end in sight. There are currently many puppies (beagle, small terrier, and lab mix) that will be ready for adoption after October 20, and HSHV will also have over 30 puppies back from foster home care at the end of October which will need homes as well.

In order to quickly find homes for the pets, HSHV has reduced adoption prices and is holding special adoption days.

  • Adopt One Kitten - Get One Kitten Half-Off! - (until further notice)
Adopt any kitten and get the second one for half-price. (The second feline must go to the same home)
  • FREE Feline Weekends (Fri. - Sun.) - (until further notice)
Any cat over 7 months old is eligible for a FREE adoption Friday through Sunday. HSHV adoption requirements apply.

(All animals are spayed/neutered, are up-to-date on vaccinations and come with a Microchip I.D. which is included in the low adoption fees and in FREE adoptions specials)

The Humane Society of Huron Valley, located in Ann Arbor, was recently awarded the "Best Large Animal Shelter in Michigan" by the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance for saving the most lives. HSHV is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and relies solely on donations from businesses and individuals to support our community programs. The mission of HSHV is to promote responsible and compassionate care of all animals in our community. For more information, call (734) 662-5585 or visit www.hshv.org.
