Ramona (formerly Sugs)

Adopted in March 2011

My husband and I adopted five year old "Sugs" a few weeks ago from HSHV. We were originally looking for a kitten as we thought it would adjust better to our one year old lab. My husband, who hadn't expressed a ton of interest in a cat said he wanted a tabby striped kitty. When we walked by Sugs' kennel he said he really liked her coloring. It was odd because not only was she older but she was tortie colored. But, this was the most interest he had shown in any of the kitties, so we went back to check her out. We were able to pet her for a bit and she was so loving and outgoing I fell in love. In the car ride home, Ramona tore her box open and got out in the truck. Tess, our lab, was sleeping in the back seat. Ramona immediately crawled into the back seat and met Tess right away. It went very well surprisingly!!

Once we got home, we were nervous with her being older, we didn't know how set in her ways she would be and if she would get along with Tess. However when we got her home we put her in our guest bedroom and shut the door to give her quiet time to adjust. Within one day she did not want to be in there alone anymore! She was digging at the bottom of the door, so we started letting her explore the house. Sugs, who is now named Ramona or Mona for short, runs the house and sleeps with us every night snuggled right next to Tess. She doesn't meow at all but she tries lol. We tell her she has a broken squeaker. She purrs nonstop. If you don't pet her 24/7 she will stare at you and reach out to touch your hand or arm until you pet her.

She has been losing weight as well and is looking great. She doesn't play with toys but loves her catnip filled bug. She also loves looking outside and watching our mouse and hamster run in their wheels. Once its a bit nicer we may try supervised adventures outside. Shes got a hot pink collar with a bell (so we know where she is at) and has already been to the vet, which she did very well at. She definitely doesn't have a typical Tortie mentality. I work in a vet clinic so I have taken her to work with me a few times to get her used to the atmosphere. My coworker had Mona plopped on her lap the other day giving her a pedicure. Mona also just sat nice and still when they drew her blood for her routine blood screening!

At home you can find her in any room with people, or in the guest room, which is her "safe zone" stretched out on the queen size bed.

She was absolutely perfect addition to our family! We couldn't have gone home with a more perfect kitty. Thank you for letting us take her home. We look forward to many many fun years with her! :o)

Love,
Jason, Lisa, Tess and Ramona
