Stella (formerly Calypso)

Stella
Stella

Adopted in April 2010

Stella (former Calypso) came to us on April 1st, not as an April fools joke but as a replacement to our cat of 15 years, Phoebe.

When I went to the Humane Society I saw Stella and she looked just funny - Puss in Boots - was my first thought, she was a bit feisty and her eyes looked scared. For some reason I took a strong liking in her and could not get her big green/yellow eyes out of my mind. Sure enough I returned the next day to take her home and the journey of Stella the Siberian beauty on Fair Street began.

First we noticed that she is very territorial and feisty - she likes to play with her teeth and claws and is certainly independent. After a month we let her explore the backyard and we also noticed she is a jumper and can jump 6 feet from a seated position with no problems - our 6 feet fence to keep her in the yard was rather useless and we had to add more hight to prevent her from migrating into the neighborhood. She also thought she can do what birds and squirrels can do and climbed up trees, several rescue actions later she realized she is a cat - a great cat - but just a cat.

To our surprise she comes when called and stands by us like a dog when visitors are coming over, she is obsessed with water and rain or snow don't bother her. After her fur grew back we also noticed she does not shed and no hairballs (yeah) - with other words we were wondering what kind of cat do we have: jumps extremely high , loves water, does not shed, acts like a dog - and her fur is just beautiful silky soft and thick and full. We checked into it and discovered we got a Siberian cat and what a beauty she is (at least in our eyes). She still loves to play rough, but also discovered the advantage of being a lap cat and the comfort of sleeping on a down comforter - she seems very happy and content and so are we. Thanks to the Humane Society we found our perfect match and we are very grateful for it.

Thank you Andrea and Howard
