Lillypad  Lillypad Adopted in fall 2010 Last fall, after being without a pet for a year, we started thinking about adopting a new family member. My husband and I have always been dog people, but with two young children (5 and 2) and two careers, knew this wasn't the time to take on a new pup. So after talking it over we started looking for a cat. Being newbie cat owners, we decided to adopt an adult cat, and thought a Siamese mix might be nice since they have a reputation for being friendly and outgoing. A few weeks after starting to track the cats available for adoption at HSHV, I spotted Lillypad. She had a sweet face with expressive blue eyes, and lovely cream, gray and peach coloring. After showing her profile to my husband and the kids, I called to check on her, and found out she was sick. Poor kitty had a bad respiratory infection on top of some other general sickness related to being a stray. I was able to stop in and meet her anyway, and though she was sick, she got up to head-butt me and make friends. As soon as she felt better we took her home. Her first week was a little rocky health-wise, but after a visit to our own vet and a little extra TLC she got better, and has been feeling great ever since. She's a lovely cat. She's very playful and enjoys living with kids -- LEGO pieces and Hexbugs make great cat toys, FYI -- but also enjoys snuggling. She eats her dinner at the same time we do, hops on the bed when my alarm goes off in the morning, and likes to go hunting for spiders in the basement. She enjoys supervising the kids' bath and bedtime routines, and usually goes in their rooms to check on them before lights out. It's been 3 months now since she came home with us, and it's hard to remember what it was like without her. She's a great fit and we feel very lucky to have found her! Heather Sturm |
