Murray (formerly Pilot)

Murray
Murray

Adopted in March 2010

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers at HSHV for helping my husband and I adopt our little maltipoo "Murray" (known as Pilot at the shelter) in March last year.

We adopted our cats, Oscar and Sarah, from the shelter about five years ago and hoped to find a dog through a shelter or rescue program as well. Our requirements, however, for a dog that would fit into our family were pretty steep (non-shedding, small, over the puppy stage, and good with cats). So, we looked off and on for a few years, but, due to our requirements, nothing ever felt right. But, the stars must have aligned because last March, because after years of browsing rescue and shelter sites for the perfect dog, I went to HSHV just to look around and there was Pilot. He had been abandoned (or lost?) at the airport and a wonderful volunteer from HSHV brought him in and wrote up a little letter about him. She is Murray’s angel! He was also heartworm positive, but is now cured. Yeah! The staff and vets were so helpful and caring during the whole adoption and heartworm treatment.

The concern that the vets and technicians showed for him during his heartworm treatment made the intense treatment process and the complications that he experienced much less scary. Words cannot express my gratitude to the HSHV vet clinic for curing our little guy and giving him a chance to have a long life. We’ve only had him a year but I cannot imagine my life without him. He has never failed to make my husband and me so proud and happy with his sweet personality and cleverness.

Both my husband and I work from home and he spends most of the day at my or my husband’s feet or on our laps. Beyond being the perfect lap dog, he loves to play fetch and chase birds and squirrels. Murray is a great little traveler as well, as we have gone on several long distance trips with him. He has definitely fit into our extended family wherein he gets lots of love from his two sets of grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins (furry and human). Most surprising to me is the way that our cats have totally accepted him as part of the "pride."

Thanks again HSHV!
