Marie has plenty of smiles to share!

We're happy to announce that Marie, a one-and-a-half year old pit bull mix, has been selected as our 2011 Walk & Wag Celebrity Spokesdog. Marie and her brother Donnie were found abandoned on the side of the road. It took some time for both dogs to develop social skills and trust people again, but they came around quickly, with Marie taking the lead.

Prior to her adoption, Marie was one of the first dogs to go through our MI-Paws training program, where she spent 10 weeks receiving 24-hour care and training from two of the inmates at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility.

David Crouse, Marie's adopter, says he believes that Marie's time at the facility "restored her trust in humans and really socialized her nicely for our home." He adds, "I've had several pit bulls before and they are always sweet dogs--Marie is one of the best!"

We agree! Marie was selected because she is such a wonderful representation of her breed. Pit bulls, though widely maligned in the media, can make wonderful family pets. We have many up for adoption because they are so tragically over-bred and mistreated in our community. Marie reminds us all that pit bulls by nature are loyal, sweet, and loving and, like any other dog, deserve a second chance at a happy life.

We would love for people to come out and see the cheerful, loving pit bulls we have for adoption. Right now, adoption fees for any pit bull are only $100 for dogs seven months andolder, and $175 for puppies.
