Grey Kitten Purrs His Way Into a Our Home

Grey Kitten Purrs His Way Into a Our Home

We searched PetFinder web site, adoption events and breeders for 2 months. Humane Society of Huron Valley helped us find the perfect kitten for our family.

We lost our 17 year old tortie cat to hyperthyroidism in February 2017. After several months of grieving, my husband and I were ready to open our hearts for a new family pet.

I researched PetFinder.com and numerous small rescue sites for 2 months. The small rescues are kind with good intentions but lacked professionalism. I then considered going to a breeder to adopt a 'Rag Doll' kitten. All of the online contact with small rescues and breeders just felt risky.

When I contacted Humane Society of Huron Valley the staff responded in such an efficient and professional manner I felt comfortable visiting the facility. On July 3rd, my husband and I arrived at HSHV with pleasant surprise. The building is clean, we were immediately greeted by staff and given clear direction regarding the adoption procedures.

I had a a wish list for a new family member. A kitten, as we have always adopted older cats in the past. A neutered male ~ preferably a grey kitten. Hopefully a kitten that would grow up to be a lap cat.

The staff brought us into the adoption rooms to visit with available kittens. We chose three to visit with. The volunteer provided a warm towel and gently placed each kitten in our arms.

The second grey kitty immediately started purring in my husbands arms. To see a gruff looking 62 year old man melt with a kitten in his arms was priceless. "Honey let's get this one. He such a love and seems so mellow."

The decision was made to adopt Benji (now named Pelé). The staff at HSHV spent time with us doing an exit interview. They provided health paper work and instructed us on future vaccination schedule, what to expect with kitten development and how to handle transitioning Benji into our home. Staff said, "Now it may take 3 or 4 days for the kitty to emerge from the cat carrier." We brought our own cat transport crate.

When we arrived home, we brought Benji/Pelé into his new kitten-proofed room and unzipped the pet crate. He immediately bounded out of the crate running ~ bouncing back and forth wall to wall. After playing, he fell asleep just as quickly. The transition time took about 2 days to get Pelé kitten named, eating and sleeping on a regular schedule.

We took him to our vet who ran some tests. He was given a clean bill of health. No parasites, infection or fleas. Another reason I recommend Humane Society of Huron Valley is the care they provide animals pre-adoption.

Our wish was fulfilled. Pelé is active, confident and a real love bug. By day three he was sleeping in our bed or with any house guest that takes a nap. The warm purrs Pelé so readily shares with us calm our hearts. Our spoiled little kitten is growing so quickly it is hard to believe he has been with us less than one month. (Pelé is 3 months of age.)

I can not thank HSHV enough for caring for the animal population then placing them in good homes. This is such a positive experience.

Signed,
Pelé's new mom
