Her cat had been missing 2 years How'd she get her cat back?
"I thought she was a goner," says Mary. So she was both surprised and overjoyed to receive a phone call this June from the microchip company, telling her 11-year-old Lakshmi had been found and was safe at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. "I'm thrilled to have her back." And this isn't the first time. Nearly six years ago, Mary had taken Lakshmi over to visit a friend who lived about 8 miles from her home. Lakshmi got out of her friend's home, and 11 months later, someone found her within a mile of Mary's house. "She'd walked that seven miles or so, and someone found her, took her to the Humane Society [of Huron Valley], and the microchip company called." Needless to say, Mary is a big fan of microchipping. "In the past, I used cat collars with bells-- but they always got the collars off," says Mary. "Microchips don't cost very much, they're really non-invasive-- like getting a shot. I think some people are worried about that, but it's really no big deal. And it's great that after 11 years, the microchip company still calls me, still cares." Though Mary still has the same cell phone number she did 11 years ago, it's important to know that if you change addresses or phone numbers, you must update the microchip company with that information. Is Lakshmi any different, two years later? "Her hair was matted when she came to you, but otherwise she's healthy and happy as can be... Super affectionate, sitting on me and purring."
