Woof down food & fun at Humane Society fundraiser

Join us and bestselling author Ken Foster on Sweetest Day weekend - Compassionate Feast

Compassionate Feast

Ann Arbor, MI (September 27, 2016) – Area animal lovers can eat, drink and help local furry friends Friday, October 14 at the Humane Society of Huron Valley's 11th annual "Compassionate Feast." One hundred percent of proceeds from the Compassionate Feast will go to support homeless, abused and injured animals in our community.

Ken Foster, bestselling author of The Dogs Who Found Me, will appear at the fundraiser. In addition to his well-known memoir on the stray dogs who helped him through a rough patch, Foster has written about the malignment of pit bulls in his most recent book, I’m a Good Dog: Pit Bulls, America’s Most Beautiful (and Misunderstood) Pet.

“[W]hat is a pit bull? A pit bull is exuberant, affectionate, loyal, block-headed, athletic, ridiculous, occasionally stubborn, challenging, rewarding, and loved. A pit bull is American, and like most Americans these dogs are a jumble of DNA and contradictions, which is, naturally, what pit bull lovers love most about their dogs,” Foster writes.

"We're thankful our community understands pit bulls and other animals need loving care and attention, which takes money," says Joy Johnsen, event coordinator at the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV). "Nearly all of the ticket price for the Compassionate Feast counts as a tax-deductible donation, which goes directly to help the animals."

The Compassionate Feast is a vital fundraiser for HSHV, an organization rated “4/4 stars” by Charity Navigator for its financial transparency and fiscal prudence. 2016 marks the fifth year in a row that HSHV has received this top rating; only six percent of charities rated by Charity Navigator have received this distinction. HSHV is not affiliated with or funded by any other humane organization, and HSHV relies on private donations and fundraisers like the Compassionate Feast in order to save the lives of animals.

Compassionate Feasters will enjoy a multiple-course vegetarian or vegan meal, cocktails, appetizers, a silent and live auction, and a featured presentation by Ken Foster and HSHV.

Tickets, the complete menu and more information for the Compassionate Feast are on www.hshv.org/feast.
