Humane Society of Huron Valley receives top 4-star rating for 5th year in a row

HSHV receives designation among top 6% of charities rated by Charity Navigator

Jorah the dogAnn Arbor, MI (June 27, 2016) –Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator, gave its top 4-star rating for the fifth year in a row to the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV), recognizing HSHV for sound fiscal management practices and commitment to accountability and transparency.

“Only 6% of the charities we evaluate have received at least 5 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that [the] Humane Society of Huron Valley outperforms most other charities in America,” writes Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator.

HSHV has the number one Charity Navigator rating among animal shelters in Michigan.

Charity Navigator has reviewed over 8,000 US charities on 17 governance and ethical practices as well as measures of openness, providing an evaluation of a charity’s financial health, accountability and transparency. They recently upgraded their rating methodology to give donors a better picture of how an organization performs over time.

“Our ratings show givers how efficiently we believe a charity will use their support today, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time and their level of commitment to good governance, best practices and openness with information.”

“Every day of every month, we work hard to ensure we’re making the most of donor’s money and returning it in results, so we’re thrilled to receive four-stars from Charity Navigator,” says Jaci Portaro, HSHV’s VP of marketing and development. “And though we’ve received this top rating five years in a row, every year is new, and our diligence has continued and will continue daily.”
