Bountiful Bowls feeds the need Pet food assistance program keeps furries with their families For decades, "Meals on Wheels" programs have provided millions of elderly, disabled and at-risk people with meals, so that they can remain healthier in their homes. And for nearly a decade, HSHV's "Bountiful Bowls" program has provided families who've fallen on hard times with pet food, so that they can keep their pets in their homes. Take Misty and Diana, for instance. Diana has been an Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels (YMOW) client for just over a year, and her faithful 14-year-old Cockapoo companion has been a Bountiful Bowls client. "Misty is a mischievous old dog and likes to play keep-away with anything she can fit in her mouth!" Diana says-- including the food and treats Misty receives through Bountiful Bowls. “There are so many reasons to be a proud supporter of HSHV,” says Chris Ossenmacher, HSHV Bountiful Bowls Volunteer. “HSHV continually strives to be the voice for animals in need. Helping families keep their beloved animals through this program is one more reason to be proud.” Last year, HSHV distributed nearly 40,000 pounds of pet food through the Bountiful Bowls safety net program. This year, we've already distributed over 16,000 pounds-- and that's just through May! The donated food is given to pre-approved families both through a weekly program at the shelter and with community partnerships, like YMOW. “During the summer, food donations to this program are typically down,” Chris says. “But, our commitment to helping feed pets and keeping them in homes remains the same.” Want to help? You can!
