Scout's Honor

How a pony went from sad to glad, and how his former owner pony-ed up.

Scout the ponyIt was the peak of winter. Scout, a young pony, was held captive in a small stable full of feces, absent of hay. He licked a frozen block of ice for water. He yearned for food. Attention. Love. Help. One day, Scout locked eyes with a human who cared enough to make a call.

Help was coming.

HSHV animal rescue officers found Scout and found Scout justice. Not only was his former owner sentenced and ordered to pay restitution, but also was required to seek professional help before owning any other animals. Scout was turned over to HSHV who helped him find a home.

"I had always yearned for a pony since I was a small child (a very long time ago!). So when I suggested adopting Scout 'for the children that come to visit us,' my husband knew he was also for me."

Beaming, Donna C. reports Scout is relaxed and playful, though he "always looks like he is thinking and planning. He stands quietly while children groom him and patiently trots around the riding ring, carrying his young riders and occasionally this older one. We are so happy he has come into our lives!"

Now, surrounded by a gorgeous green pasture, and alongside two horses and multiple humans he calls friends, Scout's honor has been restored. Scout not only found a home; he found love.
