Even for horses!

Brady and MiaSurrounded by filth, neglected by humans, Brady was unsure what lay ahead for him. Little did he know, his life would drastically transform...

HSHV rescued Brady and -- thanks to donors and supporters-- Brady received some long overdue vet care and TLC. But Brady had never been ridden and was still, understandably, skeptical of humans. How would he be adopted? How could he get a new outlook? How could he learn humans were good?

In the fall of 2013, we submitted an application for the University of Findlay's "Send a Horse to College" program. Brady was accepted. On April 16, 2014, he was graduated-- and shortly thereafter Brady was adopted by Tanya V. and her 13-year-old daughter Mia.

"He is the most wonderful horse I've ever come across," says Tayna, "And he and Mia are absurdly close."

Following a slightly torn flexor tendon, the vet placed Brady on a strict rehab schedule. "Mia has never missed a day with him. He couldn't go out in the pasture, so she hand-grazed him all summer. Then she began his hand-walking, increasing five minutes per week. He is now up to 20 minutes of trot a day, and in his time off, he has learned to give kisses, stay, come when she snaps her fingers... In some ways, the experience has been wonderful for Mia and this poor horse who was alone for so long. He follows her everywhere. He watches every move she makes, and they are incredibly bonded."

Brady continues to learn, too-- mastering side passes and leg yields. Tanya reports "he bends like a pro and is going to be a wonderful dressage partner for Mia, I think. He's busy and into everything -- no vices at all, but he feels the need to expore and/or disassemble everything! He is fearless and smart and amazingly sweet."

"I am so glad that we found HSHV and Brady. I couldn't ask for a more perfect horse and friend for Mia."

Brady, now surrounded by cookies and loving hugs by humans, knows he has a bright future.
