Peep's Progress

A New Life in the Country

I adopted "Peep" from HSHV for mainly aesthetic reasons: I just wanted a big orange tom cat because they're so beautiful.  Also, I learned he was a bit needy with medical problems and he won my heart.  "Peep" became "Furgus" at our house.  It means "masculine," a name we thought he needed because he'd had his "boy part" surgically removed.

We don't know much about his earlier life except that he loved a 6 year old girl who took him for doll buggy rides, which accounts for his fearless friendliness with our granddaughters.  He really likes little girls.  He also must have had a good relationship with the mom of the house since he took a permanent spot at the end of my bed right away and always allows me to pluck him from his hiding places or his path to adventures outdoors.  We don't know why he's been leery of men, strangers, and doorways, and we wonder if his broken tail has an explanatory story.  It took a
while, but he now loves and trusts my husband, who calls him home with the treat bag and provides a nice warm lap.  He does like our new little pet door, too, and is getting braver with strangers.

Furgus loves the outdoors.  He catches voles and wanders around in the woods until Kitty Curfew, which is dusk.  He especially likes to mosey along the trails on our property with our dog and other cats. He always appears quickly whenever he hears us say "Family walk!"  We are a sort of funny sight: one dog, three "puppycats" and me taking a stroll down the forest lanes together.

Every evening we have our "sweet time" when he gives nose bumps and parks himself on my desk to snooze while I'm on the computer, and he sleeps on the bed near my feet every night.  He's such a good boy.  Maybe his first family will read this and feel good knowing that he's healthy and happy here with us and that we love him very much.
