Shania sees a bright new future

Cancer of the eye can't stop this horse power

Shania the horse

Shania, an American Quarter Horse, was surrendered by her guardian in January. She couldn’t afford to care for Shania. In addition to the regular physical care that horses require and the equine food expenses that amount to a large expense, Shania had another pricey need. Shania had been suffering from eye cancer for over a year.

Of course, beautiful Shania didn't see herself as a pity case. Out of her one bright blue eye, Shania saw a new start. She saw there were people who wanted to help her!

HSHV's Cruelty and Rescue officers secured the medical services Shania needed: a farrier to repair her split hooves, a dentist to attend to her neglected teeth, and of course, a special surgeon to remove her cancerous eye.

We're happy to report that Shania is recuperating and doing well.
