The road to saving 1 million cats

HSHV joins the Million Cat Challenge

orangetabbySadly, animal shelters are the deadliest place for our feline companions. We want to help create a new reality.

HSHV is proud to join the Million Cat Challenge, a national shelter-based campaign to save the lives of a million (or more!) cats in North America. In recognition of our dedication to saving lives, high standards of care and innovative programs and approaches, HSHV was asked to be a Charter Member of the Million Cat Challenge

"We are so excited to be a part of this effort. HSHV currently has a 93% save rate for our cats. We are very proud of that statistic and will work every day to apply our compassion and creativity to save every life possible and to help other shelters do the same," says Tanya Hilgendorf, HSHV's President and CEO.

The campaign is focused on five key initiatives to save cats' lives: alternatives to intake, managed admission, capacity for care, removing barriers to adoption, and return-to field. HSHV currently has programs for all five, and continuously seeks to improve.
