Humane Society of Huron Valley asking for information on dumped, abused dogs and puppies

Wheezy the dog(ANN ARBOR, MI) – Within three days and nine miles of each other, two heavily scarred female dogs were dumped. The first was found with her puppies, abandoned near an intersection in Pittsfield Township on Monday night, December 8. The mother had been tied to a stop sign; her puppies were left close by in a covered plastic bin. Two days later, another female dog, possibly pregnant but severely malnourished, was abandoned in the stairwell of a parking garage about nine miles away, in Ypsilanti Township. It is suspected the incidents are related, and the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is asking for any information.Eve the dogpuppies in bin

“The momma dogs are very sweet but sadly, they are both covered in scars,” said Aaron Soyring, Cruelty Investigator at the Humane Society of Huron Valley, where the animals were taken.  “They could have been used as a bait dogs in fighting rings.”

The mother with puppies was found by a good Samaritan. She reported she found the crying puppies first, then heard another noise and discovered the whimpering mother tied with twine to a stop sign at the intersection of Foster and Central, between Washtenaw and Packard.

The other female dog was reported to police by a witness who observed someone drive up and place the dog in the stairwell of the parking garage at Lake Pointe Apartments.

“We’re asking for people to call us if they know anything about these dogs or incidents, or if they witnessed anything in the vicinity,” said Matt Schaecher, Chief Operating Officer at HSHV. “The number to call is (734) 661-3512 or they can submit a report on our website.”

“The mother dogs, now named Eve and Wheezy, are sweet-natured despite the battles they have endured,” said Schaecher. “And Eve has apparently been a very good parent to her puppies. They all will receive medical care, after which they will be placed up for adoption. If you would like to help with their care, please call (734) 661-3573, or click here to make a donation online. As our shelter is currently full of homeless animals who need help, all donations are greatly appreciated.”
