Top 10 reasons we're thankful

(Warning: Cute pictures.)

As the holiday season quickly approaches, we'd like to start by slowing down and showing our sincere appreciation for the things for which we are thankful. Though there are many more than ten, these items top our list year after year.

Smiling dog 1. We have you. It all started with you, and we couldn’t help the animals the way we do without you, our supporters. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

2.

We work with animals. And animals love us, no matter what kind of day we’re having.

3.

We’re warm. Not all of our animal constituents are.

4.

We complete families. Whether a family getting their first pet, a single person getting a lifelong companion, or a couple getting a walking buddy, we are lucky enough to see families get completed every day.

5.

We’re in an animal-loving community. You demand the best for the animals, and it shows. We have a nearly 90% save rate. Neither of us will settle for less, and will continue to demand better.

6.

We have a beautiful building. “I can’t believe this is an animal shelter” and “It’s so clean here” are phrases we hear every day—and we are so thankful to those who helped us break ground and build HSHV to where it is today.

7.

We can treat more “untreatable” animals. Ringworm, food aggression, heartworm, orphaned kittens—these conditions are tough to treat in a shelter. We are thankful that we can help.

We have support. Lots of support. From donors to sponsors, volunteers to foster parents, and kids to community organizers, we are grateful for the amount of support we receive.  This year, people have run towel drives, asked Trick-or-Treaters for donations, and even asked for donations in lieu of gifts.

9.

We’re surrounded by love. And cuteness. And sometimes unmentionable stuff. But we prefer to focus on the love and cuteness.

10.

We have you. Yes, we mentioned you first—and last.  We’re thankful for lots of things, but really, surrounding everything is you. Thank you.
