Cruelty Investigations Case -- 41 dogs seized from home

CAHSThe Capital Area Humane Society seized 41 dogs under warrant on Sunday, August 10 from a home on the Northeast side.  Thirteen dogs were initially removed from the home in July with the owner's cooperation.  The dogs were living in extremely unsanitary conditions with the floor of the home covered in urine and feces.  Neighbors reported the situation due to the odors coming from the property.

Placement partner organizations are assisting with the rehabilitation and future placement of the dogs.  Thank you to CHA Animal Shelter in Westerville for accepting ten of the dogs.  The Humane Society of Huron Valley in Ann Arbor, MI is helping with six and A Purrfect Start in Grove City is assisting two of the dogs.

The Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix dogs that came from the home were unsocialized, suffering from a variety of health conditions.  Sadly, a number of the dogs needed to be euthanized based upon medical and behavioral assessment.  No animals remain in the home.  Charges are pending against Earnest Preece, the owner of the dogs.

Executive Director Rachel D.K. Finney says "We are glad to be in a position to help these dogs get the love and care they deserve.  We are extremely grateful to our partner organizations, volunteers and staff who are helping these dogs take the next steps on the journey to recovery and new homes."

NOTE: The six Chihuahua mixes at the Humane Society of Huron Valley are currently receiving medical evaluations and care but we do anticipate that they will become available for adoption. These dogs will need patient families that can help them gain their confidence. More information on the small dogs will be made available soon.
