Humane Society of Huron Valley Investigates Dog Stabbing in Ann Arbor

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Late in the evening of November 13th, the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) seized a critically wounded dog that had been stabbed multiple times from a home in Ann Arbor.

The family, two adults and two teenagers, were in the middle of a heated domestic dispute and it seems the dog bit during the brawl in an effort to protect his owner.  According to multiple reports the dog was then secured in a crate in another room where he was allegedly choked and then stabbed in the chest multiple times with a kitchen knife by a male teenager in the home, while another household member was on the phone with 911.

The dog, a one-year-old male named, Leo, was taken to an emergency animal hospital by HSHV Emergency Rescue staff, but unfortunately had to be humanely euthanized due to the extent of blood loss and seriousness of his injuries.

The investigation into animal cruelty is being led by the Humane Society of Huron Valley.  “Obviously we take the violent assault on this animal very seriously.  The investigation is still ongoing, but we expect to file our report with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office early next week.  Intentionally maiming or killing an animal is considered a felony in Michigan.  ” said HSHV Director of Animal Cruelty Investigation, Matt Schaecher.
