Neighbors Helping Neighbors Pet food assistance gives relief to local families
“There are so many reasons to be a proud supporter of HSHV,” says Christine Ossenmacher, HSHV Volunteer and Bountiful Bowls Coordinator. “From the life-saving work of our award-winning shelter, to the daily heroics of our Cruelty and Rescue department, HSHV continually strives to be the voice for animals in need. Helping families keep their beloved animals through this program is one more reason to be proud.” Last year, this safety net program for family pets distributed 31,000 pounds of dry cat and dog food. Each and every pound was donated by individuals or businesses, truly a wonderful example of neighbors helping neighbors. The donated food is distributed to pre-approved families through a Sunday distribution program at the shelter along with monthly deliveries to Ypsilanti Meals on Wheels and Food Gatherers. “During the summer months, food donations to this program are traditionally down,” continues Ossenmacher. “But, our commitment to helping feed the pets in this program never wavers, so our need remains the same.” How can you help us with this important mission?
Trying times for families can be temporary and, with a little assistance from their community, a pet owner can keep their beloved pet out of an animal shelter and in its home-- where it belongs. |
