Hurricane Nellie

Adopted by the Minty family in April 2013, little Cattle Dog/Corgi mix Nellie warms hearts and creates laughter everyday with her quirky, playfully rambunctious nature.

The worst and best decision of our married life came when we adopted Nellie in April 2013. She came at the worst possible timing, as my husband was preparing his dissertation for his doctorate. But we would not change it for anything! This canine is our fur-child, hands down. We take her everywhere and spoil her rotten.

We almost lost Nellie from the very beginning. Another individual had placed a hold on the 3 month old pup, and we received the second hold. Luckily for us, this person passed Nellie on to us and that's when our puppy parent journey began.

A year later, we could not be happier. Deemed a border collie mix, we found out Nellie is actually Australian Cattle Dog/Corgi mix via DNA testing. We don't know much about her history, as she is an alumna of the Rescue Waggin, and came from Louisiana. We found ourselves a bit under prepared for her energy, but we feel we have made her very happy in our home.

Nellie loves the Ann Arbor dog parks and has many friends, spending weekends playing with her cousins, long walks in the woods, learning new tricks (being treat motivated helps), and digging in the sand at the beach (she has been to of the Great Lakes). She attends dog day care when we have to work long days; she loves it, like a home away from home. She is a rambunctious force of nature (we have nicknamed her Hurricane Nellie) when she wants attention, but she also enjoys cuddling on the couch; she even has her own spot.

Our next adventure is giving back. Nellie and I will be participating in the 2014 Walk and Wag and Run! Hope to see you there!
