HSHV asking for information related to an abused, 4-month old puppy, found in Superior Township

Morgan will undergo surgery at HSHV

Morgan1Ann Arbor, MI (March 20, 2014) –  Humane Society of Huron Valley Cruelty Investigators responded to a call about an injured dog found near Gotfredson and Geddes Roads in Superior Township on the evening of March 19th.

“Upon arrival we found a pit bull mix puppy with a gruesome injury to his rear leg,” said Matt Schaecher, HSHV Director of Animal Cruelty Investigation and Rescue. “Something had been tied so tightly around the leg that it cut off circulation causing severe swelling.  The excruciating pain caused the dog to chew off his toes.   An injury of this magnitude did not happen overnight.  This poor dog was clearly neglected for a long period of time."

The caller who found the puppy reported that he had witnessed a silver van sitting alongside the road. As he approached, the van drove away and he saw the puppy. He was unable to get a license plate number.

“We’re asking for people to call us if they know anything about this dog, or if they witnessed anything around 6:30 pm, Wednesday, March 19th at the Gotfredson and Geddes Roads location,” said Schaecher. “The number to call is (734) 661-3512.”

HSHV Veterinarians have determined that his back leg will need to be amputated because medical attention was not sought out earlier.

“The puppy, now named Morgan, is affectionate and sweet-natured despite the pain and neglect he endured. We are hopeful that he will make a full recovery,” added Deb Kern, HSHV Marketing Director.  “He will be placed up for adoption after he’s been medically cleared. If you would like to help with Morgan's medical care, please call (734) 661-3573, or click here to make a donation online. We appreciate the support for this gentle puppy.”
