When we first heard about the hoarding case that Clark was a part of, we knew we had to come and get him. He was very nervous and shy, but slowly he started to come around. Now he enjoys being outside, riding in the car and just being a real pet. He loves attention and cuddles.

When we first brought him home from the shelter, we had him wrapped in a towel so he’d feel safe. He sat on Mom’s lap the entire way home, shaking like a leaf. Now he rides in the car like a champ. Still on a lap, but now he presses his face against the window to see the world passing by. Clark has come such a long way in the last twelve months. Some people would shy away from an animal like Clark, but we embraced his situation knowing that we could help him, and love him forever.

Clark wanted to express his desire to the be the next Celebrity Spokesdog in his own words:

Dear HSHV 2014 Walk & Wag Organizers,

My name is Clark and I am a five-year-old Papillion mix adopted from the Humane Society of Huron Valley in January of 2013. I was one of forty-five dogs and two cats who were rescued from a hoarding situation by my heroes on the cruelty investigation team. Due to our living situation we were frightened, under-socialized and living in neglectful conditions.

When I was first adopted, I was very nervous about all of the changes in my life. Fortunately, I was adopted into a family with another dog who helped me adjust to being a real pet. Over the past year I have come a long way, but there are still some things I am learning. I am very attached to my new family and my Puggle sister, Zoe. I now enjoy riding in the car to new places, and visiting the pet store. I will sit on your lap and let you pet me all day long if you let me. I am still learning commands and how to play with toys, although I do enjoy the occasional chew on my bone.

I am a perfect example of the kind of animal that is given a second chance by the Humane Society, and how patience and love can change an animal’s life forever. I am so grateful to HSHV for giving me the chance to start again. I would like to share my story by being the Spokesdog for this year’s Walk & Wag. I can show people that under-socialized, neglected dogs can be amazing pets. Some people might shy away from a dog like me; one who needed to learn so much, but my family did not. They took me in and taught me how to be a real pet. I would like to be the Spokesdog to show the community how much their support can help HSHV. I attended Walk & Wag last year and did a really good job. My family was so proud of me.

Now I think I can do a really good job at being the Spokesdog!

Thank you for considering me,
Clark

P.S. My extended family includes Zoe and Livie!
