merriweatherIn critical condition when she arrived on December 8th, this wee kitten suffering from hypothermia, is now recovering in an HSHV foster home.

“The woman that found her was shocked to see a 3-week old kitten,” said Ann Edwards, HSHV Foster Care Coordinator. “It’s possible the mother cat had moved her kittens and this one was dropped or lost. She is very lucky she was found as the temperatures have been below freezing these past few days.”

Unresponsive and cold to the touch, it was not clear that the kitten, now called Merriweather, would survive. Quick medical attention and supervised care made it possible for this infant feline to recover.  Happily, she seems to have no ill effects from her ordeal and is showing no signs that she will need further medical care.

“She is doing so much better than I could have imagined,” adds Cathryn O’Connell, HSHV Administrative Assistant and foster mom. “She is bright-eyed, alert, playful, eating well, and as you can tell from her photo, extremely adorable.”

Merriweather will remain in foster care until she is old enough to come back to HSHV and will then be available for adoption.
