We Need Your Help!

Please take action on these critical animal protection bills today

puppydogHSHV supports the following legislation, and we’d like your help to encourage the Michigan State Senate and House to pass them.  Please take action today, and forward to family and friends to do the same.

Action 1

S. B. 354 would ban the use of gas chambers in Michigan animal shelters.

What You Can Do:
First, contact Representative Amanda Price, Chair of the House Committee on Local Government, to politely ask her to call a hearing for S.B. 354.

  • Representative Price
    N-1193 House Office Building
    P.O. Box 30014
    Lansing, MI 48909
    Phone: (517) 373-0838
    Fax: (517) 373-9830
    Email: AmandaPrice@house.mi.gov

Second, please contact your Representative and ask them to support S.B. 354 and ban the use of gas chambers in Michigan animal shelters. You can find your Representative and contact information at http://house.michigan.gov/mhrpublic/

Action 2

S.B. 560 would require dog breeders with more than 15 females to register with the State, and would improve guidelines, such as requiring breeders to vaccinate their dogs and treat them for parasites.

What You Can Do:

Contact the members of the state Senate Agriculture Committee and politely ask them to support S.B. 560.

Members of the Senate Agriculture Committee and links to contact information can be found here: http://www.senate.michigan.gov/committee/agriculture.html.

Action 3

S.B. 386 would restrict future ownership of pets for individuals convicted of certain animal cruelty crimes.  This common-sense measure will prevent abused or tortured animals from being returned to their abusers, as well as prevent other animals from suffering at the hands of a known abuser.

S.B. 603/604/605 and H.B. 5061/5062/5063 would require prosecutors to report animal abuse charges in order to create a state registry, and would allow animal shelters to utilize the information in their adoption processes.  This set of bills will give animal shelters the critical information they need to assure that homeless animals do not end up in the hands of animal abusers.

What You Can Do

First, contact state Senators Randy Richardville and Arlan Meekhof informing them that you support the four animal protection bills and that you want to see them placed on the full Senate schedule for a vote.

Second, ask your state Senator to support S.B. 354, S.B. 560, S.B. 386 and S.B. 603/604/605. Find your state senator and contact information here:  www.senate.michigan.gov/fysenator/fysenator.htm

Third, ask your state Representative to support H.B. 5061/5062/5063.  Find your state representative and contact information here: http://house.michigan.gov/mhrpublic/
