3,500 adoptions... and counting

In most places, kitty Ina wouldn't have had a chance. But thanks to you, she was HSHV's 3,500th love story of the year

3500th adoption - InaHoney was searching the streets of Manchester for food. She was worried how she'd make it, with six tiny kittens in her belly, due to be born any day.

Fortunately, a Good Samaritan brought her to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, where she received nourishment, medical care, and a loving foster parent willing to tend her every need. Ten days later, Honey gave birth in a snuggly warm home to three baby boy and three baby girl kittens -- all fuzzy wonders.

One of them was Ina. Little did Ina know she was an incredibly lucky kitty. The folks at the Million Cat Challenge (a lifesaving effort that HSHV is a part of) estimate there are more than 30 million unowned cats in the US: one for every 10 people. While some of them have wonderful caretakers, like those in HSHV's community cat program, the majority do not. And unfortunately, animal shelters are the deadliest place for cats. But not HSHV, thanks to you!

Fortunately for tiny sweet Ina, she had a compassionate community member who brought her mom to HSHV -- where there are veterinarians, foster parents, and adopters and volunteers and donors who make life-saving possible. And thanks go to her momma, too; young Honey couldn't have been a better cat parent.  Not only did she nurse and care for her own six babies, but also just after they were weaned, Honey willingly took on three 1-week old orphan kittens-- licking them clean and nursing them to health, too.

Honey and her six kittens were all adopted within days of one another. Ina was HSHV's 3,500th adoption of the year. Thank you for making her story and thousands others possible!
