Ahhh, relief

It's been used to successfully treat sports injuries in humans for over a decade, and now, laser therapy is helping our pets.

Laser therapy for cats and dogsIt's hard to see our pets in pain. Some may whince or whine; others suffer in silence. But as our pets' guardians, we know and share the pain, wishing we could give them relief.

"Laser therapy is the only reason my beagle can still walk!" writes Stephie M., an HSHV Facebook follower.

Laser therapy has been called a miracle by some pet owners. It's been used for decades in humans to treat sports injuries, inflammation, wound healing, dermatitis and other skin issues, and chronic pain, and now is available for pets.

By speeding up the natural healing process within cells using a low-level light that penetrates tissue, the FDA-approved Class IV Deep Tissue light laser helps reduce swelling and pain. In pets, laser therapy has been successful in speeding the healing of wounds and other injuries, as well as alleviating chronic pain from conditions like arthritis and otitis. Additionally, because it's drug-free and non-invasive, it can be used safely for many pets.

Treatment sessions usually last less than 15 minutes, depending on the animal's size and area of treatment. Pets and people in the room wear protective eye gear, and the laser is applied to the treatment area by a trained technician. Often, animals find the slightly warm light relaxing and may fall asleep during treatment. Though pets often show results within a day of their first treatment, for some conditions, multiple sessions are recommended.
