Very special puppy seeks a very special home

After a rough 2017, this little 5 month old Bulldog mix is determined 2018 will be the best year ever. It'll be the year she gets a new home.

Friendly and playful, 4 month old Amberle arrived at HSHV in early November with puppy love. Trouble was: this baby Bulldog couldn’t open her mouth. Or move half her face. Or see out of one eye.

Whether it were trauma from a person, thing or other dog, we’ll probably never know what happened to sweet Amberle. And she doesn't seem to care; the darling little pup shows unconditional love for people, things, cats and dogs. Perhaps she's determined to put her past behind her and make her story a good one.

Amberle the puppy“She’s a goofball,” says Karen, Amberle’s foster parent. “And a sweetheart. And a cuddler.”

Karen smiles; Amberle managed to wiggle her cute little way into sleeping in Karen’s bed. Though we weren’t able to talk with Karen’s resident dog, an 80 pound American Dogo, we suspect he'd like that space back. So we’re hoping to find Amberle her very own home soon!

After nearly two months in HSHV’s care, this puppy is ready for her forever home. Thanks to your financial support, young Amberle received specialized jaw surgery which has helped her open her mouth—and eat, which she thoroughly enjoys.

Amberle will need an adopter as special as she is. Someone who will be patient with her (being visually impaired, Amberle sometimes bumps into walls; and while she doesn’t teethe as much as most puppies, due to her jaw surgery, she needs to exercise by playing tug-of war). Someone who will introduce her to all the joys in life (Amberle currently lives with a dog and cat whom she loves, and she is very treat-motivated). Someone who will continue her puppy training (she’s nearly house trained and knows sit and lie down). Someone who will adapt to her uniqueness (she’ll probably only be able to open her mouth 65%, so may require flat dishes, for example). And someone who will love her with sweet puppy abandon for the rest of her dog life.

Are you or do you know that special someone? She’d love to meet you! Please email adoptions@hshv.org or call 734-662-5585 and mention Amberle.
