Santa to deliver adopted pets in our community

Free Christmas Eve & morning delivery for pets adopted December 21-24

Santa with petAnn Arbor, MI (December 16, 2015) Has someone you know been extra good this year? Consider asking the Humane Society of Huron Valley for an adopted pet to be delivered to them on Christmas.

Any pet adopted from the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) December 21-24 is eligible for free holiday delivery within a 10-mile radius of the shelter.

“Volunteer elves will be making most of the deliveries on Christmas Eve and morning,” says Krista Donohoo, Adoptions Manager. “But Santa said he’ll deliver a few pets himself, too.”

HSHV hopes to use this service to encourage adoption instead of other ways of acquiring a pet, and aims to get as many homeless animals into homes over the holidays.

You can expect to see more than the typical number of puppies and dogs available in the shelter; this week, PetSmart Charities’ “Rescue Waggin’” will be transporting dozens of homeless dogs from shelters who struggle finding adopters to HSHV, which has a high adoption rate.

“All of our usual adoption screening and processes will still apply,” Donohoo says. “And we want our animals to get homes as soon as possible, so we will not be putting pets on hold prior to December 21. Also, adopters should be mindful of what’s happening in their household for the holidays—unlike a toy, a pet cannot be placed in a box while the family heads to grandma’s house!”

HSHV helps match people with pets ideal for their lifestyle, and reminds parents to be ready to assume care for any animal adopted. All adopters must also have the time available and necessary for the transition into the home—which is an especially important consideration during the bustle of the holidays.

“This is the first year the big guy in the red suit called on us for help,” says Donohoo. “And we’re honored to help spread the holiday cheer and deliver loving, deserving animals to loving, deserving people.”

People interested in adoption can view available pets on HSHV’s website and on HSHV’s Facebook page, and can visit in person:
