Smartphone Animal Photography Class - Virtual via Zoom
Humane Society of Huron Valley - Zoom Virtual Event

smart phone photography

Do you love taking photos of animals with your smartphone, but want to refine your skills?

Presented by Anne Savage, HSHV's Photographer, this 1-hour class will teach you the basics of photography and how to apply them to capture beautiful photos of animals.

These days the best camera is the one that you have in your pocket. If you have a phone, you have that camera. Mobile photography, iPhoneography, or smartphone photography is a real and important form of photography.  The photos you take on your mobile phone are as valuable as the ones taken on your DSLR. They are valuable because you have captured a photo that would not otherwise exist. While mobile photography as a practice encompasses the range of devices available on the market; this workshop focuses mostly on the iPhone. The iPhone remains the most popular mobile camera device, and supports the most comprehensive photo app infrastructure. However, people using other devices will be able to benefit from the techniques and concepts described in this workshop.

Most of you are already be taking photos of your pets with your iPhone, using your own combination of apps, processes, and filters to produce interesting images. What this workshop will help you do is use your iPhone to create beautiful, professional-looking photographs of your pet. It will equip you with the skills to take control of the iPhone, rather than rely on its auto functions. It will give you the confidence to capture those beautiful moments we see everyday with our pets. I start with the settings and options in the iPhone camera app, including a few that most people don’t even know about. I’ll cover several techniques to improve composition and lighting — and hone your creative eye.

During this virtual workshop you will be able to see, in real time, how  Anne uses her iPhone to photograph a couple of her own pets. You’ll see how she adjust the controls and make the images better before taking the photo. You will learn about portrait mode, live images and about a few apps to help make the images even more beautiful!
