HSHV Education Center

Reactive Rover Class (Dog-Dog Reactivity): For PEOPLE-FRIENDLY dogs ages 6 months and above who are reactive towards/around or struggle to get along with other dogs.

When dogs are uncomfortable, fearful or defensive, they often show signs of aggression such as barking, growling, showing teeth, snapping, lunging or biting.  This is how the dog communicates with the other dog how they are feeling.   Most of the time people misinterpret what their dog is trying to communicate and they actually end up increasing aggression and reactivity instead of decreasing it.  This class gives owners the tools to control, manage and understand what their dog is trying to tell them.  This allows owners to more effectively work with those issues and help bring the dog to a calmer, more relaxed state of mind when around other dogs.  This class teaches dogs how to be more appropriate and friendly towards other dogs as well as focus on their owners when around other dogs.  This class builds the foundation for re-socializing your dog reactive dog.

Is Reactive Rover Class for me and my dog?

Is your dog 1 year or older?   Does he or she need to work on focusing on you when there are other dogs around?  Does he or she show signs of aggression such as barking, growling, showing teeth, snapping, lunging or biting when around other dogs?   Has your dog bit another dog (without doing major damage) and now you’re afraid to bring him around dogs again?  Then this class might be for you!

What dogs do NOT fit into Reactive Rover Class:

  • Dogs who have done major damage to another dog (such as hospitalizing another dog)
  • Dogs who are aggressive towards people
  • Dogs who bite their handlers when their handlers try to redirect them from focusing on another dog

For dogs who fall into the above category, this class is likely not the class for you.  However, we would be happy to refer you to an in-home trainer who can help you.  Just shoot an email to: katelint@HSHV.org and we’ll set you up with someone who can help
